DraftKings Ending Credit Card Deposits by Players

DraftKings has announced that, as of August 25th, 2025, they will no longer be allowing players to deposit funds into their accounts with credit cards like Visa and MasterCard.

Debit cards will still be allowed for funding accounts, along with several other options, including debit cards, ACH bank transfers, wire transfers, PayPal, Apple Pay and Venmo.

This action stems out of a recent $450,000 fine the site received from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) after accidentally allowing players to deposit monies and gambling through credit cards in 2023 and 2024.

DraftKings actually self-reported some violations in Massachusetts, claiming that they had unintentionally accepted $83,000 via credit card deposit. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission asked for proof that DraftKings returned the funds to all 200+ affected users and asked DraftKings to request a third-party audit to be sure that no other funds were deposited or wagered via credit cards.

In addition to Massachusetts, several other US states, including Iowa, New Hampshire, Oregon, and Vermont prohibit credit card deposits for online casinos and sportsbooks.

Pennsylvania's AG Asks Trump Admin to Fight Online Gambling

In what seems to be a familiar refrain, yet another state Attorney General is asking the Trump Administration to combat illegal online casinos and gambling companies.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday made his position clear, stating, "Illegal offshore gaming and gambling companies circumvent all state and federal laws" with the mission of maximizing their profits. He went on to say that, in particular, he's appealing to US Attorney General Pam Bondi for action because these "illegal" sites expose children and other vulnerable populations in the state to gambling without the legal protections that exist in legitimate, state-sanctioned operations.

Of course, AG Sunday has a $6 billion online industry with 22 different state-sanctioned online casinos to protect in the state. I'm sure that has nothing to do with things. I doubt all those brick-and-mortar casinos scattered across the state have nothing to do with it either.

Among the remedies Attorney General Sunday is proposing is civil asset forfeiture based on the Unlawful Internet Gambling Act of 2006, which could lead to the seizure of domain names, gaming services and monies deposited into player accounts.

Former Detroit Piston Malik Beasley Cleared

It's not all bad news in the world of gambling today.

Former Detroit Pistons guard Malik Beasley has been freed from the dark clouds of a gambling investigation that had been hovering over him. As a result, he is free to re-enter the free agent market ahead of the upcoming NBA season.

However, the investigation into Beasley game at great personal cost. He was on the verge of signing a three-year, $42 million contract with the Pistons when news broke about the probe. This resulted in the Detroit Pistons rescinding their offer to him.

Now it looks like the nightmare is over, as he is no longer the target of an investigation by the Eastern District of New York.
