Boyd Gaming Discloses Recent Cyberattack

Just yesterday we shared with you the breaking news about the teenager arrested for allegedly masterminding the MGM Resorts cyberattack in 2003. Now there's even more news related to the hacking of Las Vegas casino operators.

In their latest filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Boyd Gaming revealed that they had recently had a "cybersecurity incident" in which an unauthorized user managed to access their internal IT system. Once detected, Boyd Gaming states that they responded to the invasion with the assistance of outside cybersecurity experts and involved federal law enforcement entities as well.

According to information released by the company, the unauthorized third party took information from Boyd Gaming's systems. Included in the heist was employee data and info about a limited number of "other individuals."

Boyd is in the process of notifying all parties affected by the invasion and it is not expected to have a notable impact on the company's operations.

It is still unclear if Boyd Gaming had to pay any sort of ransom related to the cyberattack.

Boyd Gaming is the operator behind nearly thirty casinos, including several properties in the Las Vegas valley, including Sam's Town, Aliante, and The Orleans. They also operate casinos in many other states, including Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, and Mississippi.

We will keep you updated as there are more developments in this story.

Judge Ordered Teen in MGM Resorts Hacking Case Released

In an update to our recent report on the arrest made in the 2023 MGM Resorts cyberattack case that greatly upended their operations and caused major headaches for players and tourists, the accused has caught a break.

Today a judge determined that the boy accused of the invasion into the MGM Resorts system is not a threat, nor a flight risk, and ordered the teenager released to the custody of his parents.

Despite being set free, the relief may be short lived. According to our previous story on the case, prosecutors are looking to charge the teen as an adult, which could bring the kid, if convicted, a rather lengthy prison sentence.

This story is rapidly developing, so make sure you check back frequently as SportsBoom, as we will surely have updates in this high profile case.
