Kayla Harrison News

With just one defeat to her name in her pro MMA career, it is perhaps unsurprising that Kayla Harrison is carrying plenty of favor with trusted UFC bookmakers. Perhaps ironically, it is interesting that Amanda Nunes has been training with Larissa Pacheco for UFC 324, given that Pacheco is the only fighter to defeat Harrison.

In the Professional Fighters League (PFL), Harrison fought Pacheco three times between May 2019 and November 2022 and won the first two contests on a decision basis. Harrison was also crowned PFL lightweight champion.

Anyway, Harrison is a natural southpaw grappler, and she is one of the most decorated female athletes in combat sports history, having won Olympic gold medals in judo in 2012 (London) and 2016 (Rio).

Harrison, who made her UFC debut in April 2024, has made serene progress, and she took the bantamweight belt from Juliana Pena last June with an impressive kimura submission. And having called out Nunes after the win, she will be prepared for everything that is thrown her way.

Amanda Nunes News

Having formally announced her retirement from UFC in June 2023, Amanda Nunes has been dragged out of it by Harrison. Deemed as one of UFC’s all-time greats, bantamweight champion Nunes, who was also a featherweight champion at 145lbs, joined an exclusive club alongside Conor McGregor, Daniel Cormier, and Henry Cejudo in becoming a dual-weight champion.

Nunes, whose record stands at 23-5, has enjoyed 10 victories over eight UFC champions, including flyweight superstar Valentina Shevchenko and Ronda Rousey.

Although she was a former teammate of Harrison, training at American Top Team in Florida, Nunes is an undisputed knockout queen, with 56% of her wins coming via this method.

Known as the “Lioness”, Nunes, who originally started in ju-jitsu, boasts excellent distance control. She is great with her range and using leg kicks to outclass her opponents and take their legs away from them. Her body power is also immense, and she can shrug off takedown attempts.

Her boxing and firepower are two of Nunes’ core strengths. Along with her slick and crafty movement, she can finish off anyone. If she can overcome Harrison, she will go down as the best female UFC warrior of all time.

Suggested Bets

UFC betting sites worth their salt will have been pouring over odds, but there is usually no shortage of odds in the days and hours leading into a fight. We have done some digging around and unearthed a couple of lines for Kayla Harrison vs Amanda Nunes that are worth latching onto.

  1. Kayla Harrison to Win: Given her raw power and her all-around skills, Harrison has many tools in her arsenal that can hurt Nunes. One of the strongest women to compete in the sport, her grappling technique is superb, and she is unrelenting. If she comes firing from the first round, Harrison could storm to victory. (12/25 with BetRivers)

  2. Kayla Harrison to Win by Submission: Given her technical ability and ground-and-pound style, Harrison will look to put Nunes on the back foot early doors. Harrison isn’t the sort to settle and bide her time in a fight, and if she can get Nunes into a lock, she could take the contest via a submission which is appetizing. (53/100 with BetMGM)

  3. Kayla Harrison to Win the Fight in Three Rounds: In her past three fights, Harrison has been relatively clinical, and often, she has finished her opponents off within three rounds. If she gets off to a strong start, Nunes could succumb before the fourth round. (42/60 with ESPN Bet).

Value Bets

  1. Amanda Nunes to win by KO/TKO: Nunes’ pedigree is undeniable, and while she hasn’t fought since UFC 289, where she dispatched Irene Aldana via a unanimous decision, she is a KO expert. If she can find her range, then she could go in for the kill and land a KO/TKO blow. (4/1 with Hard Rock Bet)

  2. Fight to Go the Distance: Both Nunes and Harrison have been accustomed to finishing off their opponents with ease; however, they will both be prepared to go into the trenches. This could become a war of attrition, and if so, the fight could go the full five rounds. (3/1 with bet365)

  3. Amanda Nunes to Win by Decision: Nunes will need no motivation to do well, and she doesn’t have much left to prove. Her performances have been full of destruction, but if it goes all the way, her tactical nous could see her land the contest via decision. (5/1 with Caesars)

Prediction: Harrison to Win By Submission

With one of the most exciting fight cards advertised in recent history, UFC 324 has the potential to provide plenty of fireworks. Vegas is the perfect setting to stage two classy female operators in Harrison and Nunes, and it is a fascinating matchup.

Of course, Nunes will want to prove that coming out of retirement was the right call, but Harrison’s raw firepower could prove to be too much. Harrison has it all in her locker, including kimuras and rear-naked choke (RNC), and she could well clinch victory by submission.
