Brandon Royval News
Known as ‘Raw Dawg’, Royval (17-8) may have felt like he was on the wrong end of a bad decision against Van; however, he was repeatedly vulnerable to Van’s blistering right hands. More often than not, he has struggled to prevent takedowns when opponents are involved in grappling exchanges.
Royval was supposed to face Kape earlier this year, but cited multiple concussions as to why he had to pull out.
However, his most common form of victory has come through submissions, and he’s great with kneebars and heel hooks. A statement win over Kape would put Royval back into the flyweight title conversation.
Manel Kape News
A sparring session during the summer saw Kape break his right foot, and subsequently, his bout with Royval was pushed back. Kape has big ambitions to win a world title, and he is renowned for his excellent strike rate. His KO rate (62%) puts him in tied second for the most knockouts in UFC flyweight history.
He is box-office viewing, and he has treated fans to wins over Asu Almabayev, Zhalgas Zhumagulov, and Ode Osbourne. Famed for his strong takedown defense ability, as shown against Almabayev, Kape is adept at shutting down single and double leg attempts consistently.
Kape is here in Vegas to impress, and if he can take out Royval, he will climb into the top five in the flyweight division.
Suggested Bets
U.S UFC betting sportsbooks will carry plenty of markets per fight, and for a headline contest such as this, there will be some intriguing Brandon Royval vs Manel Kape betting odds to hop on.
Manel Kape to Win by KO/TKO: As a knockout specialist, Manel Kape will hope to get the job done quickly. If he can pin Brandon Royval into the corner with some big hits, then a KO win could be on the cards (5/6 with Stake).
Brandon Royval to Win in Round 5: If Royval can get into his stride early on, he could overpower Kape. Interestingly, three of Royval’s past five contests have gone the full five rounds, and one of his defeats came via a unanimous decision. In terms of UFC betting insights, this is worth paying attention to. (11/8 with Sportsbet.io)
Brandon Royval to Win by Submission: At times, Royval has shown himself to be well-rounded with his skillset, but his most popular method of victory has been by submission, which has amounted to 53% of his career wins. If he can take the initiative, a win by submission is certainly feasible (3/4 with Pinnacle)
Value Bets
Total Under 3.5 rounds: This isn’t likely to be a quick contest given the ferocious firepower on display, and Royval is pretty good with his jabs and his consistently strong kicking, which he showed against Van, Brandon Moreno, and Alexandre Pantoja. Kape hasn’t been involved in fights that have been under three rounds, so this is worth tapping into. (2/1 with N1Bet)
Manel Kape to Win By Decision: Given that Kape has demonstrated his ability to provide a killer KO, not many of the best betting sites for UFC are backing him to win by decision. Nevertheless, the fact that Royval might feel he was on the end of a rough decision against Van, this option shouldn’t be ruled out (8/1 with 1xBet).
Fight to Go the Distance: There are always plenty of thrills and spills in UFC, and judging by Royval’s recent track record, he has been prepared to slug it out and go to Round 5. While Kape may not want a slug fest, Royval could look to push this one out, so this line is worth checking out further. (5/1 with Betway)
Prediction: Royval To Win By Submission
Las Vegas is built for big UFC nights, and the expectant crowd at UFC Apex will be hoping that the Colorado-born Royval delivers a stunning display and takes out the Portuguese star Kape. Yes, Royval is higher in the flyweight rankings, but Kape is on the rise, so this matchup has all the ingredients to be a classic.
Although Royval can be vulnerable to powerful right hands, as shown by his bloodied battle with Van over the summer, he is effective with the jab, and he doesn’t mind a scrap. Royval’s grappling skills and ability to remain patient will be key here, and he could well win this fight by submission.
