Heading into this bout, De Ridder suffered his first major setback against Bradley Allen, headlining UFC 262 last October, where he succumbed in Round 4 via TKO/KO. However, De Ridder, who is eighth in the middleweight rankings, will be looking to cause an upset against the Brazilian Borralho, who is a spot above him.

Borralho (17-2-0) is a classy operator. Until his unanimous decision defeat at the hands of Nassourdine Imavov at a UFC Fight Night in September, he had enjoyed a four-match winning streak, so De Ridder will need to be at his best.

But what should you expect? Our Caio Borralho vs Reinier de Ridder preview contains UFC betting insights and statistical gems to clue yourself up on before the first bell.

Caio Borralho News

Known in the sport as “The Natural”, Brazilian-born Borralho isn’t like most fighters in UFC. The 33-year-old is a keen chess player, but he grew up teaching math and chemistry, because he claims to be good with numbers.

Arguably a bit of a geek, Borralho trained in the run-up to his defeat against Imavov, wearing special signature lens-less black glasses, and he likes playing into the notion of being a fighting nerd.

Great at problem solving, Borralho adopts a southpaw stance, and a hallmark of his game has been great distance control. Borralho lands over three significant strikes per minute, and his takedown defense return of 76% suggests it’s difficult to unsettle him.

Borralho has been the distance in his past couple of fights, and often looked very bruised. Nevertheless, he’s won the bulk of his contests via decision, so that stands in his favor.

Reinier de Ridder News

Referred to as RDR for short, De Ridder boasts an impressive record in the Octagon (21-3-0), but he’s coming off the back of a TKO defeat to Allen, and he will be eager to set the record straight.

Before that, De Ridder’s scheduled bout with Anthony Hernandez was cancelled, which was a shame as he had enjoyed five wins on the bounce. An elite grappler, he has often set himself apart from his cohorts in UFC.

De Ridder’s takedown average (2.68) makes for promising reading. His height and reach advantage mean he should look to take the initiative against Borralho, but he won’t mind being cast as the underdog.

Suggested Bets

Ahead of any fight, we like to uncover where the key battles will be won and lost. For De Ridder vs Borralho, we’ve shared some free match predictions for you to tap into.

  1. Caio Borralho to Win by KO/TKO: Although he’s only chalked up one more win than his opponent via this method, Borralho is a slippery customer. 28% of his victories have been secured through TKO/KO, but given Borralho’s speed with his hands, he could be too strong for De Ridder and deliver an explosive win. (36/50 with DraftKings)

  2. Reinier de Ridder Over 0.5 Takedowns: Despite an inferior takedown accuracy (30%), De Ridder, who is often called the “Dutch knight”, is deemed a master grappler, and he will look to get stuck into Borralho. De Ridder could come firing out of the blocks and make some headway in the early rounds. Over 0.5 takedowns across the contest is worth leaning into. (10/11 with BetMGM)

  3. Caio Borralho to Win by Decision: Often after many of his fights, Borralho cuts a battered and bruised figure, but he’s happy to dig deep into the trenches. With 47% of his wins claimed via decision, Borralho could well nick this contest if it goes to the judges’ scorecards. (3/5 with Caesars Sportsbook)

Value Bets

To take your betting experience to new heights, we suggest you look for value lines. Within this, you can take advantage of a first deposit offer made available at reputable MMA betting operators.

  1. Total Under 3.5 Rounds: Apart from his clinical TKO/KO Round 2 win over Paul Craig at UFC 301 in May 2024, Borralho’s past three fights have gone the distance. De Ridder, meanwhile, has been more ruthless in his most recent visits to the Octagon, and if he’s going to win, he could do so in three rounds or fewer. (5/1 with Hard Rock Bet)

  2. Fight to Go the Distance: Borralho, as we’ve seen, hasn’t always done things the easy way. He won’t mind grinding it out, and De Ridder will have to do something special if he’s going to unsettle the Brazilian. Anyway, the fight to go the distance market always provokes intrigue, and it has value attached to it. (4/1 with DraftKings)

  3. Reinier de Ridder to Win by Submission: De Ridder is technically gifted, and he loves to get his hands dirty. His height advantage makes him an imposing figure, and apart from his impressive takedown stats, the Dutchman has clinched 67% of his contests via submission, so this is a feasible outcome. (5/1 with FanDuel)

Prediction: Caio Borralho to Win

Much of the focus ahead of UFC 326 will be on the highly anticipated rematch between Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira, but Borralho vs De Ridder has the potential to provide some fireworks too.

While De Ridder is an expert grappler, Borralho is a canny fighter who can weave in and out, and he’s got some quick hands. Borralho will likely exert a lot of pressure during the early stages, and even if the contest goes the full five rounds, we think Borralho will prevail.
