Mario Bautista News
Described as a ‘lab-built’ talent, Bautista has been molded through his training at the infamous MMA Lab in Glendale, California. Perhaps one of the best bases in the sport, Bautista was on an eight-fight winning streak until he ran into Umar Nurmagomedov last October at UFC 321.
On that night, Nurmagomedov outclassed Bautista, claiming a unanimous points decision win. All three judges scored the contest 30-27 in Nurmagomedov’s favor, and it was no surprise, given the way Nurmagomedov smothered Bautista from the first bell, putting him on the mat with consummate ease.
Bautista is renowned for scrambling free for takedowns, but as his record (16-3-0) shows, most of his wins have come via decisions. Indeed, he is prepared to go into the trenches, and he will need to demonstrate plenty of resolve and skill if he’s going to overcome Oliveira.
Vinicius Oliveira News
Known as ‘LokDog’, Oliveira is a huge talent, and his stock continues to grow. In chalking up three wins in the space of a year over Bernardo Sopaj, Ricky Simon, and Said Nurmagomedov, he’s put himself on the path to stardom.
Indeed, Oliveira is a man who has an aura of invincibility as he’s won six bouts in a row. The Brazilian has proved to be a KO/TKO expert with 70% of his wins coming via this method, and he’s got plenty of flair.
Oliveira, at times, strikes his opponents with ease. He often produces flying kicks with a mix of grace and danger. He’s passed some tough assignments, including his most recent win against Kyler Phillips last summer, and his skillset makes him a handful.
Facing Bautista will represent a step-up, but you imagine Oliveira will be unfazed by the occasion.
Suggested Bets
MMA betting sites worth placing wagers at will carry a diverse range of lines for punters to tuck into. We’ve selected a few suggested bets ahead of Bautista vs Oliveira that you shouldn’t ignore.
Vinicius Oliviera to Win by KO/TKO: Oliviera isn’t the sort of MMA fighter that likes to hang around. 70% of his wins come via TKO/KO, and he’s prevailed in three of his past six bouts in this way too. In two of these, he delivered telling blows in Round 1, and if he dictates early on, it could be a chastening evening for Bautista. (51/100 with FanDuel)
Vinicius Oliveira to Win by Decision: After TKO/KO, Olivieria has had some success with delivering wins by submissions. At times, it could get tight against Bautista, and it may need the ringside judges to decide this contest. (8/11 with Hard Rock Bet)
Mario Bautista Over 0.5 Takedowns: While he’s demonstrated an innate ability at times to wriggle free from takedowns, Bautista, who is higher in the bantamweight rankings than Oliveira, may fancy his chances. A total of Over 0.5 takedowns in the bout doesn’t seem too fanciful. (9/5 with Fanatics Sportsbook)
Value Bets
Fight to go the Distance: If you like the sound of Oliveira to take the fight by decision, then the contest to go the distance may be too good to overlook. Neither fighter will give an inch or take too many uncalculated risks, so this line could be worth exploring. This market often attracts plenty of attention at sites for UFC betting. (2/1 with Caesars Sportsbook)
Mario Bautista to Win Inside Two Rounds: While he was taught a harsh lesson by Nurmagomedov, Bautista will have reviewed the footage and made some serious adjustments, so that he doesn’t get caught cold against Oliveira. The American is a smooth operator, and if he can get the crowd behind him, he could put on a masterclass and claim a victory within two rounds, which certainly offers some value. (3/1 with ESPN Bet)
Mario Bautista to Win by Submission: With a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Bautista is a tough and uncompromising fighter. If he’s firing on all cylinders, he could put Oliveira in some tight spots, and he could well claim a victory by submission. He’s secured 44% of his victories by submission, so that should count for something, right?!
Prediction: Mario Bautista to Win by Submission
UFC is never immune to shocks, but it would be quite the upset if Oliveira were to get past Bautista. Although Oliveira has been growing in stature and confidence with his most recent fights, Bautista is a different beast. Yes, the defeat to Nurmagomedov will have hurt Bautista, and while he’s got less ring time under his belt compared to Oliveira, his 16-3 record is pretty impressive.
If Bautista settles down quickly, he could live up to the hype and deliver a strong performance. The Vegas crowd will be rooting for him from the first bell, and we expect Bautista to bounce back. He could use his grappling skills to great effect, and a win via submission isn’t beyond the realms of possibility.
