Alexa Grasso News

Things haven’t exactly been smooth sailing for Grasso since her first bout with Barber. Yes, there was a clinical Round 1 win over Joanne Wood on a UFC fight night in March 2022, but she came unstuck against Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 306 following a unanimous decision, and that was their third clash.

This preceded a unanimous points decision defeat to Natalia Silva at UFC 315. Grasso, let’s not forget, is a former champion, and she is certainly in contention to battle it out for UFC gold once again.

Her high-volume approach is supported by excellent combination punching, and her crisp movement around the Octagon makes her a tough nut to break down. With an average of over four significant strikes per minute, Grasso doesn’t like to hang about.

Grasso comes in slightly heavier, but her slight reach advantage could work in her favor. Although there is a burden on her shoulders, Grasso is at a crossroads in her career, and she will be looking to re-establish some momentum.

Maycee Barber News

Known as ‘The Future’, Barber has been clamoring for a rematch with Grasso for years. After finally getting her chance, she will want to seize the opportunity with both hands.

Although she has an impressive 15-2 record, Barber has had a few setbacks to contend with. Last May, she was earmarked to headline her first UFC event against Erin Blanchfield, but the bout fell through after Barber failed to make her weight, and then suffered a seizure off stage, forcing her to withdraw, and she was rushed to hospital.

Before that, she was hospitalized for 11 days with pneumonia, and subsequently had to back out of her planned fight with Rose Namajunas. Anyway, the defeat to Grasso was the wake-up call she needed.

She hasn’t lost since UFC 258, and Barber would reassert herself as a top contender for a title if she were to win. Barber is an effective ground-and-pound style fighter, and that was showcased in her TKO win over Amanda Ribas at a UFC event in Florida in 2023, so Grasso has been warned.

Suggested Bets

The UFC sites for betting that we use always deliver for the markets they advertise. We’ve selected a few suggested wagers that could be worth tapping into ahead of Grasso vs Barber.

  1. Alexa Grasso to Win by Decision: Grasso took the original bout by a unanimous decision, and it’s taken a long time to schedule a refight. Although Grasso’s last two bouts saw her on the wrong end of a points decision, there is nothing to suggest that she couldn’t repeat the feat against Barber. (8/5 with FanDuel)

  2. Alexa Grasso Double Chance (TKO/KO or Points): Having opted for the decision line, you can combine this with double chance, and cover a couple of outcomes with Grasso to win by points or TKO/KO. Combined, Grasso has won nearly 90% of her fights via TKO/KO and points, so the double chance line could be worth leaning into. (9/11 with FanDuel)

  3. Fight to Go the Distance: Both fighters have been pushed the distance on several occasions, and this grudge match could go all the way once again. The fight to go the full three rounds doesn’t seem too fanciful. (11/10 with FanDuel)

Value Bets

Those bettors who wish to test themselves on MMA markets may be persuaded to try out the following lines that hold some value for Grasso vs Barber. They have helped form today’s predictions.

  1. Total Under 2.5 Rounds: Neither fighter would be classified as slow burners and plenty is riding on the outcome of this bout. A clinical victory could be telling, and Under 2.5 rounds has some merit. (6/1 with FanDuel)

  2. Maycee Barber to Win by TKO/KO: Though Barber has experienced some setbacks over the past few years, she has been gunning for revenge over Grasso. If Barber comes put fully firing from the first bell, she could land a TKO/KO win, and that’s not too fanciful. (7/1 with FanDuel)

  3. Maycee Barber Over 1.5 Takedowns: Barber has proved to be far superior in this department, averaging Over 1.5 takedowns per contest. Barber to claim Over 1.5 takedowns across the bout is tempting. (8/1 with FanDuel)

Prediction: Alexa Grasso to Win

The stakes couldn’t be much higher for both fighters insofar as bolstering their chances to put themselves in the title picture.

That said, while Barber will be eager to turn the tables and set the record straight, Grasso appears to be the more complete fighter. We’re looking forward to the rematch, but Grasso has more weapons and punching power, and that could prove to be the difference. We’ve marked down a Grasso win here.
