Legendary Polish goal machine Robert Lewandowski is ready to snub a mega-money move to the Middle East in favour of extending his glittering career in America, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

The lethal striker will become a free agent this summer after confirming his departure from FC Barcelona, bringing the curtain down on a prolific spell in Spain.

Lewandowski turns 38 in August, but with rivals like Lionel Messi, now 39, and Cristiano Ronaldo, 41, continuing to perform at the highest level, the Polish superstar believes he still has plenty left in the tank.

The remarkable longevity shown by two of football's greatest icons has become a major factor in Lewandowski's determination to keep playing rather than consider retirement.

STAGGERING PROPOSAL

Saudi giants Al-Hilal were first out of the blocks and tabled a staggering contract proposal believed to be worth more than £30million a year.

But while tensions in the region have eased in recent months, concerns over possible instability have reportedly played a part in Lewandowski's thinking over a move to the Saudi Pro League.

That has opened the door to a switch to Major League Soccer, which increasingly appeals to the former Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich star.

Chicago Fire FC have been linked with Lewandowski for months and remain firmly in the frame.

The ambitious MLS side cannot compete financially with Al-Hilal's riches, but after a dazzling 20-year career, the striker is hardly short of options.

WORLD STAR

Fire previously chased and missed out on both world stars, Kevin De Bruyne and Neymar.

Messi's Inter Miami CF also remain a possibility, although they are yet to publicly signal interest in the Warsaw-born hitman.

Suggestions linking Lewandowski with Liverpool FC and Chelsea FC appear to be wide of the mark.

Meanwhile, FC Porto have distanced themselves from reports of an approach due to the striker's wage demands.

However, Italian giants Juventus FC are understood to be weighing up whether to make a move for the veteran marksman, who scored 119 goals during four productive years at the Camp Nou.

This feels plausible but not settled. At 38, MLS is a natural fit and offers lifestyle plus legacy appeal, while Saudi remains financially hard to ignore. If he prioritises comfort and brand over pure money, America wins out, but expect late movement and rival MLS clubs (or even Juventus) to keep this alive.
