Wilfried Zaha’s loan spell at Charlotte FC is coming to an end simultaneously with the expiration of his contract with Galatasaray.

The fact that the 33-year-old star will become a free agent has turned him into a "gold-standard" opportunity for MLS clubs seeking an experienced leader, particularly within the Designated Player (DP) quota.

Charlotte’s Decision and Galatasaray’s Farewell

Since joining Charlotte FC in January 2025, Wilfried Zaha has been one of the team’s most effective attacking weapons.

However, a crossroads appears in Charlotte’s current squad planning.

His current club, Charlotte FC, is highly satisfied with Zaha’s on-pitch leadership and marketing power. However, the club’s desire to shift the wage budget toward younger, "investable" players makes it difficult for Zaha to secure a permanent contract. While the Charlotte management wishes to keep the player, the Ivorian must accept a significant salary reduction.

For Galatasaray, the Zaha chapter effectively closed financially during the winter transfer window through loan fees ($2.8 million) and salary waivers. As his contract expires in June 2026, Galatasaray has no chance of generating transfer revenue; the player will sign for his new team entirely as a "free agent."

Interested Parties

Three main clubs have emerged, contacting Zaha’s management agency and attempting to reach a pre-agreement for the summer.

At the top of the list is LA Galaxy, renowned for high-profile star signings. Galaxy aims to deliver the "finishing blow" on their path to the championship by adding Zaha to the circle of experience they have built with names like Marco Reus in the attacking line. Zaha’s 1v1 effectiveness could be Galaxy’s greatest weapon in the expansive spaces of MLS.

Seeking to add "pace and dribbling" factors alongside legends like Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, and Rodrigo de Paul, Inter Miami has placed Zaha on its radar. The club’s financial structure and Zaha’s interest in the Miami lifestyle make this transfer highly probable. Rumors suggest the Miami management is preparing to offer the player one of the highest salaries in the league.

Additionally, New York City FC also view Zaha as both an on-pitch leader and an "icon" suited to the city’s cosmopolitan structure. Their trust in players with Premier League experience, in particular, has carried Zaha to the top of their shortlist.

Contract Details and Wage Expectations

Zaha’s Galatasaray contract expires on June 30, 2026. From this date forward, he holds the right to sign for any club of his choosing for free.

Currently playing at Charlotte FC with a guaranteed annual fee of approximately $2.8 million, Zaha, taking advantage of his free agent status, is demanding a salary and signing bonus in the $4.5 - $5.5 million range per year in his new contract.

All interested clubs plan to recruit the player under the "Designated Player" status.
