Having joined the Colorado Rapids in January, Lucas Herrington has made a literal "high-profile" entrance into his MLS career.
The 18-year-old, 1.93m (6'4") giant is not only attracting European heavyweights with his physical dominance but also with the leadership qualities he displays at the heart of the defense.
Defensive "Ministers" in Colorado
Herrington’s early performances against Portland Timbers and LA Galaxy have already earned widespread acclaim.
His standout display in the 2-0 victory over Portland, where he played the full 90 minutes, scored a goal, and recorded flawless aerial duel statistics, has significantly shifted the profile of observers in the stands.
Reports suggest that Premier League outfits West Ham United and Everton have added the player to their shortlists due to his massive frame and aerial command.
Alongside RB Leipzig, who have tracked the player since his Brisbane days, Portuguese side Sporting CP is reportedly filing reports labeling Herrington as a candidate for a "future elite center-back."
Scouts have primarily analyzed the player through his defensive interventions and clinical impact during the Portland and LA Galaxy fixtures.
Technical Report
He utilizes his height advantage not just through stature but with impeccable timing. He is a genuine threat in both his own penalty area and the opposition’s box (as seen in his goal against Portland).
Additionally, he possesses an exceptionally mature reading of the game for his age. His tackling and interception timing allow him to neutralize threats before they escalate into dangerous chances.
Club Stance: "No Rush to Sell"
Having only recently secured his signature, Colorado Rapids are not keen on an immediate offload:
The Rapids management expects Herrington to develop in the MLS for at least two seasons, aiming to drive his market value toward the €15m–€20m bracket.
While no formal bid has reached the club yet, it is rumored that European clubs may test the waters this summer with offers in the €8m–€10m range.
