Having pulled off one of the most romantic homecomings in Brazilian football in recent years, Lucas Moura is preparing for perhaps the final major transfer of his career following a dream-like spell with São Paulo.

Becoming a fan favourite after winning the Copa do Brasil upon his return to São Paulo, the 33-year-old Lucas Moura is currently navigating one of the most challenging periods of his career. Sidelined due to an unfortunate rib fracture suffered in March, the veteran winger has become the number one agenda item in the transfer market while focusing on his physical recovery. With his contract entering its final year, the "departure" bells are ringing louder than ever for Lucas.

São Paulo’s Stance

The management of the Brazilian giants has based its plans for Lucas Moura on two main axes.

São Paulo views Lucas not just as a player, but as the team’s leader and a "club icon." However, his annual wage bill of approximately £1.3 million and a contract set to expire at the end of 2026 are forcing the club into a financial crossroad.

The club wants to see how the player returns from his injury. If Lucas regains his former form, an extension offer will be on the table. However, it is rumored that if the player feels the need for a "rejuvenation," the club will not stand in the way of this farewell.

Due to his age (33) and having just over six months left on his deal during the summer window, São Paulo does not have a massive asking price. Nevertheless, leaked information suggests a symbolic fee in the €1.5 - €2.5 million bracket could be requested from MLS franchises.

MLS Radar: A "Spurs Summit" in Los Angeles?

Lucas Moura’s explosive speed and elite experience have whetted the appetite of North American franchises.

Without a doubt, LAFC sits at the top of the shortlist. The greatest source of excitement is the prospect of a "reunion."

Son Heung-min, who joined LAFC from Tottenham in Summer 2025, reportedly wants to see his former "brother-in-arms" in Los Angeles. The pairing of these two North London legends in the Hollywood Hills is seen as a priceless marketing opportunity for the MLS.

Known as the "second home" for Brazilian players, Orlando remains a strong option. The Brazilian lineage established since the Kaká era could reduce Lucas’s adaptation process to zero.

Financial Background and Wage Expectations

Contract Status: Lucas Moura’s current deal with São Paulo runs until December 31, 2026. A move represents the last chance for São Paulo to avoid losing him for free.

Expected to hold "Designated Player" status in the MLS, it is reported that Lucas expects a guaranteed contract in the $3 - $4 million annual range.
