Free agent Sergio Ramos wants to remain in Europe after being offered a deal to move to the MLS, SportsBoom can reveal.
The Real Madrid legend, 39, is in the process of buying La Liga club Sevilla.
Ramos is heading up a consortium trying to buy his boyhood club.
La Liga rules state that you cannot play and own the same club, but it is understood Ramos offered to play for free whilst the process was finalised, which is touted to take months.
However, league regulations have scuppered the chance of that happening due to a minimum wage players must earn by playing in La Liga with Seville unable to pay the €195,000.
Sources in America have told SportsBoom, that Ramos, who has not played since leaving Mexican club Monterrey in December, has been offered a deal in the MLS.
However, that approach was turned down as Ramos wants to remain in Europe as he looks towards the transition from player to administrator.
After being hit by the news he cannot play for Sevilla, Ramos has offered his services to Ligue 1 outfit Marseille until the end of the season.
In other MLS-related news, Cristiano Ronaldo’s fallout with his Saudi Arabian club has scuppered a proposed reunion with former Real Madrid and Manchester United teammate Casemiro, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal. The decorated midfielder is now expected to head to America once his contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season.
Stellar Career
The centre-back came through the ranks at Sevilla and the club is close to his heart.
He enjoyed a nine-year association at the club as he came through the academy and turned professional there.
Ramos moved to Real Madrid in 2005 for €27million, a then record for a Spanish defender, and the rest as they say is history.
Joining in the era of the famous Galacticos, Ramos was part of five La Liga triumphs and four Champions League wins, famously winning Europe’s top gong three years in a row under Zinedine Zidane.
After 16 years with Madrid, Ramos went to PSG and won back-to-back league titles with the Parisians.
