Carlos Vinícius, the nomadic striker who has donned the jerseys of Benfica, Tottenham, PSV, and Galatasaray, has undergone a true career renaissance since returning to Brazil with Grêmio.

Earning the title of Brazil’s most prolific forward during the opening phase of the 2026 season, Vinícius has caught the eye of MLS representatives, who are already at the negotiating table ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

With a stunning record of 9 goals in his first 11 games this season, the 30-year-old is no longer just a target man; he is a statistical phenomenon.

Current Developments & Grêmio’s Strategic Dilemma

While the Grêmio board is highly satisfied with the momentum Vinícius has brought to the squad, the player’s contract timeline is pushing the club toward a crossroads.

Although Grêmio intends to keep the player at least until the end of the Brasileirão Serie A season, offers featuring high foreign currency inflows from MLS cannot be ignored.

The club's financial sustainability remains a priority. Sources close to the club emphasize the player’s happiness in Porto Alegre, yet the Brazilian striker remains open to evaluating financially lucrative proposals as he approaches the final peak years of his career.

The player’s current deal expires in December 2026. Crucially, since the "appearance-based" extension clause in his contract has not yet been fully triggered, Grêmio’s leverage at the bargaining table will begin to weaken as the summer progresses.

High Demand in MLS: The Leading Suitors

In North America, Carlos Vinícius is viewed not just as a clinical finisher, but as a "system player" with significant marketing appeal due to his Premier League and European pedigree.

One of the league's rising franchises, Charlotte FC is closely monitoring Vinícius to bolster their offensive line. Reports suggest a "comprehensive bid package" is already being drafted.

Part of the City Football Group, NYCFC is in search of a target man with high tactical discipline. Vinícius’s ability to play with his back to goal makes him a "flawless candidate" for the New York outfit.

Portland Timbers are also looking to acquire the experienced forward under a Designated Player (DP) slot, viewing his 1.90m frame as the missing piece in their aerial offensive strategy.

Analytical Verdict & Technical Scouting

Vinícius possesses the rare "physical striker" profile that is highly sought after in modern football.

Standing at 1.90m, his absolute aerial dominance is a 100% tactical fit for the MLS style, which relies heavily on expansive play and high-frequency crossing from the flanks.

Grêmio’s valuation for the transfer is expected to sit in the €10m–€12m range. For a marquee signing of this caliber, an annual salary expectation of $3m–$4m is considered well within the standard for top-tier MLS franchises.

While Grêmio may attempt to delay the move for a title charge, the player’s desire to secure the "last major contract of his career" pushes the probability of a summer move to over 60%.
