Resorts World Las Vegas is bringing back their insane and hated parking fees.

While other hotels have been making more customer-friendly moves, the team at Resorts World Las Vegas thought it wise to start gouging patrons for parking again.

Resorts World Self Parking Goes from $0 to $21

If you have been following news out of Las Vegas, you are probably already aware that visitor traffic is plummeting, as tourists are staying away in droves. As a result, many properties have been actually starting to move in the consumer's direction, creating new promotions, waiving resort fees, and dropping prices on shows.

Yet one property is moving the other direction...and in a big way.

Recently, Resorts World was getting in on the discount action, recently offering a promotion to waive resort fees for visitors during certain dates. However, this wise move seems to be an isolated one.

From the property that brought you numerous controversial things, including being right in the middle of the Shohei Ohtani interpreter gambling and money laundering scandal, we now have another questionable decision to add to the list.

Resorts World was offering self-parking for $0. That's right, free...an actual amenity favorable to guests compared to some of their strip rivals.

However, starting Wednesday, September 16th, free parking is gone from Resorts World.

They aren't going to charge you $5.

They aren't even going to charge you $10.

No, Resorts World is going to charge you $21...to park your own car!

There are some folks that will be excluded from the parking fee. Nevada license plate vehicles and Genting Rewards members in tiers Elite, Honors, Prime, Monarch, and Imperial are excluded from the onerous charges.

But if you're not in those select groups, get ready to pay through the nose. Even worse, they are going to make you download another app to your phone to deal with the parking charges.

It seems like the attempt to squeeze every last nickel out of visitors isn't coming to an end any time soon...at least not at Resorts World.

Reports of Dynamic Pricing at Las Vegas Casino Hotels

First it was surge pricing on the ride share apps like Uber and Lyft. Then there were reports around the country that some bars and restaurants were doing the same thing. The practice seemed to unleash a backlash once a beer could cost a different price, depending on the time of day.

Well, now it appears that the contagion may be spreading to the Las Vegas Strip.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, they have found numerous price switcheroos depending on the time of day or day of the week.

For example, the price of a bottle of suncreen over at Mandalay Bay was higher on a Friday afternoon, compared to a time earlier in the week. The price of a bottle of water at the Bellagio was a buck more on Friday, compared to all the other days of the week when the Review-Journal monitored the price.

For now, the changes appear to be so isolated and minimal, properties are most likely just testing to see what they can get away with and not cause a lot of negative PR.

We'll keep an eye on the situation and let you know if there's a follow up on this story.

Is the Las Vegas Buffet an Endangered Species?

When yours truly started going to Las Vegas over two-and-a-half decades ago, I looked forward to eating at the various buffets daily. Not only did they provide value, although I was almost always comped anyways, but they were a great way to grab a meal quickly and get back to my intended goal of the trip, losing all my money in the casino and returning home to a negative bank balance.

For many casino resorts, the buffet was a loss leader, meaning it actually cost them money on a net basis. It was considered a marketing tool for the casino.

However, the COVID pandemic offered properties a great excuse to close these less- or un- profitable ventures and replace them with something else.

Now, as casino revenue is falling as a proportion of overall revenues for properties, executives have been looking for ways to dump some of the perks offered to casino players, such as cheap, inexpensive buffet options.

Sure, there are still some buffets on the strip, but the ones that are still standing tend to be the more high-end options, such as the Wynn Buffet, the Bacchanal Buffet at Caesars, and Wicked Spoon at the Cosmopolitan.

MGM has been the most aggressive at shuttering buffets, closing the ones at Luxor, Aria, Bellagio, MGM Grand, and Mandalay Bay. Additionally, they closed the one at the Mirage, but everything closed over there.

Now you can count all the remaining buffets on the Las Vegas Strip without using all your fingers.
