When you sign up, the sportsbook runs your details, including your name, date of birth, address, and the last four digits of your SSN, through automated identity databases in the background. This happens silently during registration, and for most bettors it's enough. If the system can confirm who you are, you're verified on the spot with no further action needed.

If the automated check can't fully confirm your identity (due to a recent move, a common name, or a database mismatch), the sportsbook will then ask you to upload supporting documents, typically a photo of your ID and sometimes proof of address.

Also, if you’re cashing out a large sum, you may have to deal with slower-than-usual withdrawal velocity as the book conducts more detailed verification checks.  

How to Speed Up KYC in Time For NFL Sunday Kickoff

Signing up on Friday can save you a lot of frustration. Verification queues tend to spike on game days, which slows everything down right when you want to be placing bets. KYC is a one-time hurdle. Sign up the night or two before game day, enter your information exactly as it appears on your license, and have your SSN digits ready, and the automated systems at DraftKings, BetMGM, Caesars, and FanDuel will typically clear you before you've finished making your coffee.
