The Rio's Parent Company Gets Huge $176 Million Loan
Dreamscape Companies, operators of the Rio Casino-Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip, has closed on a $176.5 million loan for its 2,520-room hotel.
The loan is a retroactive Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy (CPACE) loan that is used by commercial property owners to upgrade infrastructure to improve energy efficiency, water conservation, and other similar projects.
The Rio underwent a $350 million renovation project in 2024, re-doing all 2,520 guest rooms, the casino floor, pools, and meeting and convention facilities. They also did some work on the exterior of the property, including a new OLED marquee, painting and neon lights. There were also modernizations of their heating and cooling systems, as well as their electrical system.
Fake Justin Bieber Fools the Wynn
A guy pretending to be Justin Bieber managed to get on the stage at the Wynn's XS Nightclub during a DJ set by Gryffin.
Best of all, the guy doesn't even sing well at all.
Despite this, fans and folks on the stage seemed to buy it, and afterwards he got mobbed by the crowd once he finished.
Now, I'm not a fan of Justin Bieber, but I think I have a good idea of what he looks like. This guy had some tats and a beard, but the similarity pretty much ends there.
Charges Dropped Against Former NBA Player
In an update to our earlier story about the arrest of Marcus Morris at the Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on July 27th, the NBA veteran is no longer facing charges in Nevada, as they have been dismissed.
Morris had allegedly bilked the Wynn Las Vegas Hotel and Casino and the MGM Grand for $265,000 in 2004, after failing to pay his markers, resulting in some massive bad checks once the casino hotels submitted them for payment.
This led to quite an embarrassing incident at the airport in Florida, where he was taken into custody for the outstanding warrant in Nevada.
However, since that time, Morris has cleared his debt with the two casinos in question. In return, the charges in his case have been dismissed.
I'm pretty sure he's learned his lesson. Hopefully he doesn't make enough waves to land in another one of our Vegas news roundups.
Downtown's Plaza Hotel & Casino Extends Hot Deal
The all-inclusive hotel room packages have been gaining popularity at value properties in Las Vegas for some time. Fans of these deals can thank the Plaza Casino and Hotel for that, as they were the property that introduced the offer to Sin City back in 2024.
In the wake of its wild popularity last year, the Plaza has brought the deal back for 2025, plus it has been extended into the month of September.
The Plaza's all-inclusive deal waives all resort fees, while still giving guests access to the fitness center, rooftop pool, and self-parking for free. Guests also get bottomless drinks at the Omaha Bar and Sports Book Bar at the casino, plus breakfast and dinner at various outlets on the property.
If you tried the Plaza's offer previously, you may notice a few new additions to the program. The free dining options have grown, plus they have tacked on a 25% discount on drinks at the cocktail bar at the rooftop pool.
You can find all of the details for the Plaza's all-inclusive deal here.
While you're at the Plaza Casino, make sure you check out their free fireworks show each Friday during the summer. And if you like pickleball, you will be happy to know that no other Las Vegas resort has more courts than they do.
Woman That Mowed Down Strip Pedestrians Finally Sees Justice
It has been nearly ten years since Lakeisha Holloway, also known as Paris Paradise Morton, mowed down pedestrians on the Las Vegas Strip in 2015, but justice has finally been served.
After a long wait for Holloway to gain the competence to stand trial, she has finally been found fit and has pleaded guilty to one count of second degree murder and one count of battery with the use of a deadly weapon.
Holloway faces a likely sentence of 18 years to life in prison, with credit for the time she has already served.
Don't remember what happened back in 2015?
On December 20th, according to police, Holloway purposefully drove onto the sidewalk near the Paris Las Vegas and Planet Hollywood casinos, hitting thirty-eight pedestrians over a few blocks.
One of the injured, Jessica Valenzuela, 32, died of injuries sustained during the incident.
Holloway, high on marijuana at the time, was initially charged with 71 crimes, including murder and child abuse charges; her three-year-old daughter was in the car with her at the time of the incident.
Initially, Holloway pleaded not guilty, claiming that a mental breakdown due to losing a job and deaths of loved ones caused the event.
Holloway's sentence will become official at a hearing scheduled for September 25th.
