The Washington Wizards are occupying the lowest places of the Eastern Conference for yet another year, this time with the organization bottom of the pile. The Wizards have won only three games this season, with two of those coming on home turf. They face another tough test against the Cavaliers, but the home court advantage could play in their favour.

34-year-old veteran CJ McCollum is on the roster in what is his first year in Washington and has featured in the most NBA games this season for the franchise. Across 20 games thus far, he’s averaging 18 points per game, his lowest since his second year in the NBA. However, his contribution is arguably the most significant within the organization.

On the flip side, 20-year-old Alex Sarr is posting impressive figures in just his second year in the sport. He’s worked on his game and is playing far better, averaging an impressive 19.1 points and 8.6 points per game, making him the roster leader in both stat departments. Sarr’s availability will be a key to victory, though, as he’s currently nursing a thigh injury.

The Cleveland Cavaliers ended last season at the top of the Eastern Conference, but their form has dipped this year. While they lost 18 games last season, they have already dropped 10 this year. Despite the decline, the Cavaliers remain a strong, competitive team and are very likely to make the playoffs by the end of the season.

Donovan Mitchell is once again playing at a great standard within the Cavaliers’ starting five, averaging an impressive 30.7 points, 5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game. His numbers are up there with him at his very best, especially his shooting, which places him fourth overall in the NBA. Mitchell is close to averaging almost his career best in rebounds, too, showcasing his versatile skillset.

The Cavaliers’ stat leader in rebounds is Evan Mobley, who once again is showing his importance in defense. Though averaging a career high of 19 points per game, his 9 rebounds per game place him 17th overall in the league. Mobley is still only 24, so it’s almost certain he will get better as time goes on. The franchise thrives even more when he’s playing in the center.

Value Bets

Before locking in my props, I always compare odds across trusted US online betting sites to make sure I’m getting the best possible value on each line.

  1. CJ McCollum: Over 20 Points

CJ McCollum’s consistency will play a key role in this matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Though he’s averaged 17.6 points across his last five games, their most recent matchup saw 25 points, leaving us to think he’ll post at least 20 points in this one. McCollum’s scoring will benefit the Washington Wizards tremendously if Alex Sarr is ineligible to play.

  2. Donovan Mitchell: Over 25 Points

To keep the theme on the topic of shooters, Donovan Mitchell is the safest value bet for this matchup. He’s played 21 games against the Washington Wizards in his career and has an impressive average of 27.3 points per game. His consistency will play a pivotal role, and we predict he will post at least 25 points in this clash.

Prediction: Cleveland Cavaliers to win

I’ll close out this NBA match preview with my betting prediction: a Cleveland Cavaliers win. The Cavs come into this matchup with the stronger roster, the superior record, and a remarkable 13-game winning streak. With Washington struggling to match that level of consistency, I expect Cleveland to take control and emerge as the likely winner in this clash.
