Head-to-Head Record

As stated earlier, this matchup on 12th December marks the third time both the Detroit Pistons and the Atlanta Hawks have played each other this season. The Pistons won both the previous two games in November and early December, including an extremely close game in the latter.

But this matchup has seen incredible matches over the years, with the first one taking place in 1949. Both franchises have faced off 451 times throughout regular-season history, and the Pistons have the upper hand in total win count, winning 230 times to the Hawks’ 221 victories.

Without a doubt, this historic game will be one of the most exciting matchups of the season.

A couple of years ago, the Detroit Pistons were down in the doldrums, but they have quickly established themselves as a force in the NBA.

They’ve put together an impressive record both at home and on the road, losing only five games this season at the time of writing, and currently hold a clear advantage as the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference.

At the forefront of the organization is Cade Cunningham, a 24-year-old guard who has become a revelation and one of the best players in the league. Cunningham is averaging 27.5 points, but also an impressive 6.4 rebounds and 9.3 assists per game, making him such a tough opponent for any team facing him.

Within the Pistons’ starting five, Jalen Duren has elevated his game this season. His scoring has jumped from 11.8 points per game last season to 18.8 points per game now, and he continues to be a dominant defensive presence. He currently ranks fourth in the league in total rebounds, averaging 11.5 per game.

10-5

The Atlanta Hawks are the ninth seed in the East, but are only 2.5 games behind the second seed, showcasing just how close this division is at this point of the season.

The Hawks surprisingly have a poor record at home compared to their rivals, but on the flip side, they have one of the strongest away records in the entire league. This stat could be an important factor ahead of their trip to Detroit.

Once again, their best operator is Jalen Johnson. Despite injuries plaguing his season last term, Johnson has played a crucial role for the Hawks this year. The 23-year-old is averaging 23.4 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 7.9 assists per game, placing him sixth in the NBA in rebounds and assists. His shooting has improved dramatically, too, making him one of the best all-around players in the league.

The Hawks made a key offseason investment in the form of 27-year-old Nickeil Alexander-Walker. Alexander-Walker has always been used as a role player, but he’s played as a starter this season for the first time in his career.

His numbers show promise as he’s averaging 20.7 points per game, as well as 3.4 assists and 3.5 rebounds, all of which are career personal bests.

Value Bets

Follow our expert value bets. Before locking these in, I always compare prices across trusted NBA betting sites to make sure I’m getting the best possible odds on each prop.

  1. Cade Cunningham: Over 25 Points

Cade Cunningham’s influence on the Pistons’ roster cannot be overstated, and we expect him to play a key role offensively. With a career average of 26.7 points per game against the Atlanta Hawks, our first value bet backs him to score at least 25 points. In five of his last seven games, he’s averaged over 25 points, making him a key weapon.

  2. Jalen Johnson: Over 20 points and Over 7 Rebounds

Jalen Johnson’s averages against the Detroit Pistons see him post at least 16.6 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. But his recent games have seen impressive performances, averaging at least 20 points four times in his last five games. Therefore, we predict Johnson will complete this feat once again, as well as post at least 7 rebounds for this clash.

Prediction: Detroit Pistons to win

In conclusion, I believe that the Detroit Pistons will prevail once again against the Atlanta Hawks. The Pistons have already won both games this season and are on a three-game winning run; therefore, the Hawks will have a hard time stopping one of the best teams in the league.
