Jets coach Aaron Glenn was considered highly-imperiled to survive his first season in New York, and nothing that has transpired in the last few months since that season ended has made league insiders any more confident in his job security.

The Jets made major changes to Glenn’s staff, they had an offseason that has drawn skepticism around the league on the personnel side, and New York is already positioned as one of the teams that will invariably be most motivated to draft a quarterback a year from now.

That usually brings with it a move to an offensive-minded head coach and one with a strong background developing passers, that ain’t Glenn by a long shot, and there has yet to be a transaction regarding the Jets that hasn’t made others around the league brace for more change in New York, perhaps even before next season ends (Jets owner Woody Johnson has never been shy about whacking coaches in season and he is incapable to running a steady and cohesive franchise).

What Does The Titans Coach Hire Mean For Glenn?

Of all the moves thus far, two caught the most attention of other coaches and execs.

One was the hiring of former head coach Frank Reich as the team’s new offensive coordinator, and the other was Tennessee hiring former Jets head coach Robert Saleh as their new head coach.

Reich is universally liked around the league, players gravitate to him and he has been well liked by even the owners who have fired him as a head coach in the past.

“Reich will be coaching that team by December,” one NFL head coach said.

Another top personnel exec said: “Woody was already pissed at Glenn a year ago and he’s going to love Reich. I know how Woody thinks. Reich is the perfect in-house guy to have as the interim head coach, if you need him.”

As for the hiring of Saleh, who was fired early in the 2024 season by Johnson after their increasingly public fallout - him landing with the Titans so soon takes Johnson off the hook for the remainder of his contract he was owed. “I don’t think that would have kept Woody from firing Glenn if they have a bad start, but it certainly doesn’t help,” the GM said.

Glenn went 3-14 last season and seemed overwhelmed at times. The Jets have had five head coaches in the last eight years.
