Chiefs Among Suitors Monitoring Stefon Diggs as Receiver Market Shifts

With a potential legal matter behind him and the landscape for veteran wide receivers still fairly positive, former Patriots, Bills and Vikings standout Stefon Diggs is well-positioned to land a team by the start of training camp.
Diggs is being monitored closely by several contending teams that are still a little light at wide receiver.
At this point, with a trade for Eagles star receiver AJ Brown expected to come next month, and with Diggs not someone who requires a lot of offseason practice at this stage of his career, he doesn’t have to be in a rush to find a team now, and his workload even during training camp is likely to be limited.
With Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice now back in legal trouble and dealing with more health concerns, and that team leaning very hard into its defensive needs in the draft over pass catchers, multiple personnel execs from other teams told me they believe Diggs, while not a replacement for Rice’s explosion, would be a strong fit in Andy Reid’s offence as a secondary piece.
Reid has made a habit of bringing in older receivers, like DeAndre Hopkins, and Diggs has the strength and savvy to make contested catches and has a skillet the evaluators believe Reid would be drawn to. Diggs is accustomed to being on winning teams, and especially at this stage of his career, that would be the best fit for him.
A Homecoming In The Cards?
Others suggested Washington, which would be a homecoming for the local product who starred at the nearby University of Maryland, as a realistic landing spot for the former Pro Bowl pass catcher. Brown has largely been linked to the Patriots, but if that doesn’t end up being a fit, a return to New England might not be out of the question, either.
Diggs has appeared in 15 games or more in six of his last seven seasons and started all 17 games for the Patriots on their Super Bowl run a year ago, and he has 1000 receiving yards or more in seven of his last eight seasons.
Editor's Insight
The expectation here is that Diggs won’t be on the market for long once teams settle post-draft. Contenders with a clear need will circle back, and the most natural fit still looks like the Kansas City Chiefs given their track record with veteran receivers. The Washington Commanders and even the New England Patriots remain in play, but the sense is he lands with a win-now team rather than waiting deep into camp.
